JByrd Nurseries
JByrd Nurseries LLC was established in 2013 by South Jersey horticulturist Paul Richards, a landscape design professional who has served the region’s landscape industry for many years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture and Landscape Design from the University of Maryland and previously owned and operated a successful landscape business for over 15 years.
This hands-on background provides valuable insight into the challenges landscape contractors, architects, and designers face today.
JByrd works with landscape contractors, designers, and project managers throughout South Jersey and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region.
Industry Experience
Paul’s background in landscape design, contracting, and nursery sales gives him a unique understanding of the challenges professionals face when sourcing plant material for projects.
Having built and operated his own design/build landscape business, Paul understands firsthand the importance of plant availability, quality, logistics, and budget constraints on real projects.
Since 2006, he has also worked closely with landscape contractors, architects, and designers in nursery consulting—helping customers specify and source plant material that meets project requirements and timelines.
The Story Behind the Name
Customers often ask, “Why JByrd?”
The name honors Paul’s father, Jack Elias Byrd Richards. Jack instilled the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity throughout his life and career. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he went on to work as an electrical engineer with NASA’s Earth Sciences Division at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
